Matt, 24, is a medium/fast right hand bowler who plays for Russell’s Creek Cricket Club based in Warrnambool, Victoria. It is hoped that through this brilliant opportunity TCC can build an amateur cricket link with Russell’s Creek CC. This link could even enable a pathway for some of our own talented players (especially in the 21-30 age category) the opportunity to play amateur, cricket in Australia in
the future.

Matt is “Totally Stoked” about the opportunity to join Torrisholme CC for the 2020 season, following the completion of his Australian 2019/20 season, where Russell’s Creek CC play in the Warrnambool and Districts Cricket Association - Sungold Division 1.
Russell’s Creek CC were League Champions and Grand Final Premiership winners last year.

Matt was a key member of the 1st XI last season which included a hat trick against Port Fairy CC in December, his season best figures of 22-13-27-6 in the league semi-final v Dennington CC, and he was named man of the match in the Grand Final - with figures of 25.2-14-20-5, taking the winning wicket with an LBW which also clinched his 5-for. You can read about that game HERE and even watch a video of ‘Peth’ in his post-match interview with Sean Hardeman of The Warrnambool Standard.

Last season Matt bowled 176 overs, 51 maidens and took 46 wickets for 455 runs, at an average of 9.9. He had a strike rate of 23.0 and an economy rate of 2.6. He is a lower order batsman, with a highest score of 30 and an average of 13.60.

Matt has recently completed his teacher training degree and is taking a year out traveling, whilst looking to test himself during the English cricket season.

In Australia, Matt helps to run the RCCC Under 15 side and is a qualified coach (Level 1 equivalent). Matt has said he is more than happy to run some unpaid sessions and help out our other volunteer junior coaches during his time with Torrisholme CC, which is fantastic to hear.

Matt has fully researched Torrisholme CC online and has drawn big comparisons with his home club and is keen to come and get involved at TCC. Matt joins in what is a massive coup for the club and we look forward to this being the start of some strong links with amateur cricket in Australia.

TCC players and members are urged to follow Russell’s Creek Cricket Club on Facebook to keep an eye on Matt’s progress during his Australian season and likewise, we are keen for RCCC players and members to also follow our club on social media!

The TCC committee would like to thank Matt, Russell’s Creek CC and also the work of new 1st XI skipper Bryson Little, who has put in a lot of effort over the past few months, to pull this opportunity together.

Matt will swap the Mack Oval for Boundary Meadow in April 2020, upon his successful visa application.
